Ohad Meromi, All Together Now , 2013, ceramic tile, PS/IS 78, Queens All Together Now is a four panel tile installation located along the lobby wall leading to the school’s auditorium. Set against a dark backdrop are vibrant colored figures and abstract forms placed at different points in space, similar to performers on a stage. The work was inspired by a book entitled Eshkol-Wachman Movement Notation . Written by choreographer Noa Eshkol, it describes different types of human movement through language and illustrations. Figures are shown in positions including twirling, rotating limbs, reaching, and jumping. Artist Ohad Meromi has created similar figures in action for his artwork, though his wear helmets and depict movements suggestive not only of dance, but of broader fields of human activity including play and sports. A large yellow face at the top center peers downward at the mural. From this perspective, it appears as if the scene was actually of toys arranged by a giant child looking at it from above as she plays. Is this something from the past, the present or the future? Who are these figures? What are they doing? Where are they? Dynamic and exciting, All Together Now is a place of discovery where the imagination can roam. All is left possible for the viewer to explore.
